Blue Spirulina refers to the eponymous blue phycocyanin, a complex of a protein and the coloring component (phycobilin), which is extracted from the blue-green algae Spirulina. It is therefore only a part of the spirulina algae, which we also offer in dried form in our product range. While the whole algae provides many valuable nutrients, Blue Spirulina is particularly interesting for its intense color and its possible uses as a natural coloring agent – especially children love it.

The production of Spirulina Blue is as clever as it is uncomplicated: The blue protein dissolves in cold water, can be dried on a carrier – in our case maltodextrin, known from sports nutrition – and thus used as a concentrated powder.
You can even try it at home yourself: Simply mix one teaspoon of spirulina powder with 10 teaspoons of water, mix well, place one teaspoon of the mixture on a white piece of kitchen paper and watch how the water is absorbed and the intense blue becomes visible in the outer ring.
